An Analysis On How Much I Love The Harry Potter Series.

The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling is one of my favourite book series. In fact, it gets the first spot.

When people hear about Harry Potter, they often associate it with magic. Yes, it does involve a very good dosage of magic, but truth be told, it deals with a lot of other subjects too.

According to J.K. Rowling, the main theme of the whole series is ‘death’. Death is something which all of us are afraid of. In fact, when the word death flashes in your mind, you can hardly imagine what happens after.
Death is natural. It is inevitable.

I can see how this series deals with death. It was very clever from Rowling’s part to show how Voldemort wanted to be invincible, to be immortal. It is something which many dictators and those of the diabolical, despicable kind desire – immortality. I like the concept of Horcruxes, the articles where one keeps a part of his soul to keep himself protected.

Also, I like how she described the effects of a person’s death on the loved ones. When Dobby died, everyone, especially readers like me, whose hearts were broken. Most people didn’t want some deaths, like Sirius Black or Fred Weasley’s deaths, to happen but I for one believe that those deaths were inevitable. Sirius’s death demonstrated the loss of a fatherly figure while Fred’s showed that wars always manage to hurt some branches of a family.

The series also deals with coming-of-age extensively. Harry Potter’s growth from a scrawny orphan to a brave hero is some of the best aspects of the whole storyline. It is very stupid of some people to hate Harry because most of the story is told from his perspective and those people feel that Harry is passive, like Bella Swan. But to be very honest, Harry is more active than Stephanie Meyer’s bland character.

He’s always been brave and he’s quite polite as a person. During the fifth, sixth and the seventh books, you can see more of his angry side. It’s justifiable because he’s suffered a lot, as it is. He’s under tremendous pressure. In the Order of the Phoenix, people call him a fake, a liar and he suffers brutally because of the cruel words thrown at him. In the sixth and the seventh book, people again look up to him as a leader who’ll lead them through the darkness that has fallen because of Voldemort’s return.

In reality, this kind of stuff happens. Due to the corrupt government’s influence, often, the truth can be hidden.

Harry’s occasional sarcastic sense of humour is interesting too. I like his descriptions of things. Though they’re not as highly amusing as Percy Jackson, I’ve always liked Harry’s descriptions. For instance, this was a very humorous description:

Aunt Petunia thought that Dudley looked like a baby angel whereas Harry thought Dudley was a pig in a wig.

The romance in the whole series is not overdosed like some other books I could mention (*cough* Twilight *cough*). It is there, yes. But no, an overdose of romance in a fantasy series is a strict no-no. Truth be told, an overdose of romance in any book is like consuming excessive amounts of sugar!

Some of the best aspects of the whole series is that it is highly researched and there are hardly any plot holes. We had heard about Grindelwald in the book one (On Dumbledore’s Chocolate Frog card) and later on, we see his character rising to prominence. Also, the names given to most characters are very fitting. Like Severus, for instance – Severus means severe and the teacher is very strict.

Speaking of which, I also love the way her characters have turned out. Severus Snape was someone who I hated from the start – to the point of strangulation! – and after reading the ‘Prince’s Tale’, I’ve realized how complex he was as a character. He had a very troubled childhood, like Harry. He loved Lily Evans (Harry’s mother) a lot, but he loved Dark Arts as well and at first, chose Dark Arts over his childhood love.

He puts the Potter family in danger, but then tries his best to protect the family (Lily, in particular). After her
death, Snape protects her son, even though he is the son of the bloke who bullied him.

I don’t hate Snape, but I don’t love him either. James Potter might have bullied him in childhood, but Snape bullied students. Something, which I believe, is a very bad thing to do!

My least favourite character in the whole series was Dolores Umbridge. Even though Voldemort was horrible, I hated Umbridge passionately. According to Stephen King, Umbridge “the greatest make-believe villain to come along since Hannibal Lecter,”

It’s because of Umbridge that I don’t like the colour pink anymore.

Other than that, I loved the Weasley family. Their house, the Burrow, the whole family members (even Percy!), I love it all! I guess what attracts you the most is that no matter how poor they are, they are very close to each other.

My favourite Weasley is Ron (duh). His sense of humour even during times of duress cracks me up, no matter how many times I read the same sentence. I can sympathise with him and yes, he is one of my favourite characters from the Golden Trio. I hate it when he receives a lot of flak for leaving Harry and Hermione during the time when they were hunting the Horcruxes. Everyone makes mistakes and showing that fictional characters are as flawed make the book seem a lot more real.

I also like his sister, Ginny. I believe the movie writers absolutely made Ginny useless (I don’t blame Bonnie Wright!) when in the books, she’s a very strong and fierce character. Why, oh why, did the movie fellows leave her out?

My favourite characters are Harry (duh), Hermione (I identify a lot with her), Dumbledore (he is awesome, after all), Bellatrix Lestrange, Ron, the Weasley twins, Voldemort, Neville Longbottom and especially, Luna Lovegood.

I love Luna Lovegood. She’s totally badass and doesn’t give a damn if people call her Loony. Come on, she wears radishes for earrings! How. Cool. Is. That?

She’s totally inspiring and Evanna Lynch truly did justice to her character.

Well, that’s all for now! I'm really, really, really excited about the new Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie! It's not an eighth book, but it's going to be amazing! And the spoilers will be real spoilers!

*fangirling too much*

I know I’ve been updating less and less, I know. Not cool, right? But I’ve got school and my cousin was born on 12th. Ah, it’s been crazy few months!

Do post your views, don’t be silent, just spill. And I assure you, I’ll usually reply! If you're reading this, then please, oh please, just air your views. It's an open world, an open sphere! And I'm just a teenager who only owns an iPod, mobile phone and a computer. I can't cause you any harm! ;-)

Much love,
