Demons

Your looks aren't angelic,
Yet, you seem happy, not tragic;
You're street-smart,
But not as brilliant as Einstein;

There is nothing,
Particularly dark about you;
I see you wake up,
I see you live your life;

But I do not see your demons,
Clawing your insides,
Nagging you to do things,
Which will harm you;

The room's dark,
You're all alone,
Protected from the cold,
Unprotected from your inner monsters;

They come one after the other,
Slowly growing  more vicious;
The sad part is,
You cannot stop them;

First comes fear,
A cold feeling in your heart,
Colder than the weather;
Your fear is rejection,
Rejection from your family,
Rejection from your peers;

Second arrives jealousy,
The most satanic of your demons;
You start envying everyone,
Including the ones you love;

Then, hatred seeps in,
A burning intense feeling,
Which makes you feel disgusted,
About everything in your life;

But the worst isn't over yet;
The sadness that comes,
It cannot be stopped;
You start crying silently,
Trying not to make a noise,
But trying to let go of your grief;

A while later,
The morning sunlight seeps in,
The alarm clock jarringly rings,
Wrenching you apart from,
Your inner demons,
And bringing you back to your normal disposition;

 I'm sure all of us have these problems. I, for one, do have this problem. In front of everyone, I'm this bright, perky, geeky girl. But when I'm alone? I start thinking that almost everyone in this world hates my guts for God-knows-what reason - including my parents, best friends, relatives and even the neighbours who live next door.

Honestly. It's crazy

But this self-hatred drama has lessened a lot over the years. I've learnt to live with the fact that not everyone is in love with me and I should stop wallowing in grief about it. So what if people hate me? I love myself and that makes up for it! I've decided to focus my energy towards things I love - like writing,

Anyhow, please let me know of your views in the comments section! Don't keep that inner turmoil within you. Let out your feelings, tell me! I'm not just a random blogger. I love to listen to people!

  1. Nice poem! Very thought-provoking.
    On a different note, these so-called "demons" that exist are but a reflection of our state of mind. And one only recognizes them when one's distressed or angry or going through some major emotional upheaval. Do you think this concept of "demons" and blaming your actions on your "demons" has been popularized to make you find a reason to blame or a means to justify your actions? And even when people blame their wrong actions on their "demons", do you think it's their conscientiousness that gives them the need to justify their actions constantly, should they be misconstrued by societal norms?

  2. Thanks so much, Una! ;) I love your name, it's really creative! :D
    I agree with you, whole-heartedly. It's human tendency to blame others for their mistakes. A huge amount of people refuse to acknowledge their faults and instead, put the blame on these demons. It makes them feel better, by thinking that it's not really THEIR fault, but the fault of their negative attributes.
    They fail to think that their negative attributes are a part of them. To them, their negative aspects are different from their entire personality. What they fail to realize is this: their darker side is connected to their better side.
    Conclusion is, people subconsciously think that blaming their inner demons/faults can prevent them from the hard-work of improving themselves.
    I hope that made sense.
