The Unfortunate Prevalence Of Misogyny
"A woman should not laugh loudly in front of all the world and should preserve her decency at all times."When this statement was made by a Turkish politician, it sparked outrage everywhere, especially on the internet.
Well, who wouldn't be appalled?
So far, we women are expected to wear clothes fully covering our body, or else we would be raped/molested by men. We're given lesser-quality education as we're considered "simple-minded". We're not allowed to lead, because we're weak and soft-spoken?
Oh yes. we've grown up listening to highly irksome comments like, "Girls are weak. They have it easy. What are they supposed to do, anyway? Study for a few years, get married, produce kids, rear them and then die."
And now, according to this highly intelligent politician, we're not supposed to laugh.
Let's add that to the list of all the things we women can't do, eh?
I cannot fathom why the hell it is us women who're not supposed to do anything.
Why don't people tell men to stop laughing out loud? Why don't people tell men to cover their eyes, so that they cannot see female skin? Why don't people stop giving education to those men who refuse to learn and waste away their lives? Why do people make unworthy, corrupt men leaders?
(I'm not saying that all men are corrupt, but a lot of head politicians are males and are greedy for more money!)
The Turkish politician further explained his statement by this:
This statement is so wrong on so many levels. I'll try to summarize it in four points:"Where are our girls, who slightly blush, lower their heads and turn their eyes away when we look at their face, becoming the symbol of chastity?"
a) Where are our girls, who slightly blush
What? A person with XX chromosomes who doesn't blush is not a girl? Since when?
b) ....lower their heads...
Why on earth should we lower our heads? We're not your servants, are we? Why should we lower our heads? Just because we were unfortunate enough to be born as girls?
Uh, hello, mister. Why don't you lower your head for having such a disgusting, sexist mentality?
c) ... turn their eyes away when we look at their face ...
Firstly, it's face, not faces. And secondly, no. We're not going to turn our eyes away just because you look at us. We're no demure mules. We're actual human beings and we can look at whatever we want.
d) ... becoming symbols of chastity ...
This last phrase wins the "Most ridiculous phase of the millennium".
Honestly, what's so unchaste about holding your head high, looking straight and behaving in a dignified manner? It shows how confident you are, about yourself. It doesn't show that you're promiscuous.

It's not just this statement that bugs me.
It's the fact that a lot of people think that the women are the weaker sex and they're fine with being suppressed.
It's been millions of years since the creation of this planet, but the misogynistic attitude towards the women is still rampant. A lot of people think that it's a disgrace that a girl child is born into the family. A lot of people love to voice their hatred for women and their achievements by making cheap remarks - about their heritage, about the clothes they wear and about who they end up marrying.
Yes, I'm talking about the recent Sania Mirza fiasco.
To anyone who doesn't know, Sania Mirza is a really, really, really great tennis player from Hyderabad, India. She's played and won a lot of matches for our country.
So, it was natural that she was to be appointed as the brand ambassador of the state of Telengana.
But, but, but.
A brain-dead MLA had a problem with that.
He had stated, "She's the bahu (daughter-in-law) of Pakistan)! How can they make her the brand ambassador?"
Honestly.
This woman was born and brought up in India. She has played - AND WON! - for India. She has been the nation's pride and joy for so many years.
And here you are, a useless pathetic MLA who has done nothing particularly productive in life except breathe, criticizing her for who she married.
It's disgustingly disgusting, actually.
I don't get why a woman is identified as paraya-dhan by her own relatives and an object to take care of the household by her in-laws. It's almost like she's Stateless.
No matter how much you try to eradicate misogynistic treatment, there are always (*insert swear words*) people who wish to demean a woman. These people are envious of what she has worked hard to achieve and resort to comment immaturely.
