What I Really Want To Do
The tragedy of this world is,
One cannot afford to miss,
The opportunity to be,
A normal human being;
One cannot afford to miss,
The opportunity to be,
A normal human being;
The world wants us to,
Conform to its norm;
The world wants us all to,
Ditch our uniqueness and stay uniform;
The world wants us all to,
Ditch our uniqueness and stay uniform;
But do you know,
What I really want to do?
Well, let me not waste any more verse,
And let me tell you:
What I really want to do?
Well, let me not waste any more verse,
And let me tell you:
I want to,
Ditch the pretenses that I live in,
Abandon the fakeness that
I've got surrounded with,
Leave the toxicity,
Of this world;
Leave the toxicity,
Of this world;
I want to,
Set my hair free,
And allow its locks to hit me,
As the strong wind blows;
Set my hair free,
And allow its locks to hit me,
As the strong wind blows;
I want to,
Ditch my socks and sneakers,
Run barefoot as the cool dewdrop,
Of the grass tickles my heel;
Ditch my socks and sneakers,
Run barefoot as the cool dewdrop,
Of the grass tickles my heel;
I want to,
Stop acting so klutzy and coy,
Scream my heart out in joy,
Because I'm a free, free bird;
Stop acting so klutzy and coy,
Scream my heart out in joy,
Because I'm a free, free bird;
I want to,
Drop flat onto the grass,
Lay down there awhile,
Soaking in the peace;
Drop flat onto the grass,
Lay down there awhile,
Soaking in the peace;
I want to,
Gaze at the surroundings for hours,
Committing the vibrant colours of life,
To my otherwise fickle memory;
Gaze at the surroundings for hours,
Committing the vibrant colours of life,
To my otherwise fickle memory;
But the tragedy is,
None of this can ever happen;
None of this can ever happen;
Because normalcy is what everyone wants,
No matter how dull it is;
No matter how dull it is;
Anyone who has the audacity,
To disobey this rule of life,
Will be stabbed brutally,
By harsh, cruel words,
Whose scars run deeper,
Than those of a sharpened knife;
And dear reader,
No matter how much I desire to run away;
No matter how much I desire to be free,
No matter how much I desire to be free,
I'm a coward,
To break away from the shackles,
That life has locked me with;
To break away from the shackles,
That life has locked me with;

| No, the girl in the picture isn't me, *SOBS* |
Mixed verse, written in a rush.
Because well, let's face it. I haven't posted anything substantial at all.
So here's a poem for all of you. Hope you like it! :)
This poem's purely fictional, nothing based on reality. If I want to do the stuff I'd written above, I would have actually done it because I'm oh-so-daring.
No, but really. I think I'm free enough to be myself and to grow as a person. If there's one thing I feel fortunate about myself, it's the fact that I've lived a very free life.
If there's one thing I can never afford to lose, it's my freedom to be the person I want to be, not the washed out freak of nature that I'm forced to be.
So what about you guys?
What do you really want to do? Like, really really want to do? :)
Stay awesome as ever,
Much love,
Archie <3

Woah this poem is amazing... until the end when I started feeling sad because it's kinda true in a way. You could say society is toxic. It's poisoned our brains. But the thing is, once we're aware of that we're able to break free, figuratively. I don't actually want to run barefoot in grass and stare at trees for hours.

Wow. This poem is beautiful and thought provoking. It perfectly captures how society constantly expects us to be perfect. To have good grades, to have an amazing body, to have lot's of friends, just to name a few of the woulds society has laid out for us in the name of 'perfection'. I think as teenagers we often find it difficult to find our own voices and break away from the norm, especially since we are so often bombarded by the media telling us what to do. Congratulations to you though for using your voice to create this poem! You are a very talented writer! xx
ReplyDeletebtw just found this through teenage blogger central, you have a great blog and off to read some of your other posts now!

Thank you so much for your lovely views, Sarah! I really like your blog and I really, really admire the fact that you're using your blog as a space where you can voice out your own views, instead of doing stupid things that might be detrimental to you in the future! :)
DeleteEveryone wants us to do what they want. Parents want us to study, get good grades and flourish academically. Peers want us to smoke, date, be rebels and whatnot. Neighbours and nasty relatives want us to fail at every turn.
Goodness. The pressure is immense! :/
As you rightly said, it's hard to break out whilst one has overbearing people surrounding them.

I want to make people happy and tell them it's not the end of the world. I want to be someone's reason to smile, someone's inspiration to live.
